We all love to talk don’t we? We all believe strongly in our own narrative – after all, it is shaped from who we are at the very core, developed from our childhood, our experiences, our environment, and of course our inherent values.
But are we always right? No, of course we are not. We learn by listening. It is then up to us to use the information we have listened to, to shape our next narrative. And don’t forget, if we only listen to those who are like us, we will not learn anything new.
We must actively seek out diversity in our relationships. Be comfortable with disagreeing, and be comfortable with discussion. We are not always right, and neither are others. Disagreement is not personal (as long as it is respectful) and it should not be taken as so. We must learn to be attuned to our feelings and see them for what they are – human nature.
We will all have been in situations where we find someone is not listening to us. They think they have the solutions to everything. So how do we encourage others to recognise this within themselves?
